The fact whether Walsh is a journalist or not is uber irrelvant here. No one has the right to go on private property in the morning and disturb someone who does not want to be disturbed. Period. Had she done this in the middle of the day, at his place of work I could understand the satire, parody or joke or whatever you want to call it much better.

Jonathan,
Thanks for the note. Unfortunately, I'm no longer at Queen's and I wasn't able to do any lecturing there while I was working on my thesis. I'll pass on the survey to friends and colleagues, but let me know how things progress with your research. I'm curious to see what you find. Good luck!

Hi Jordan,
I noticed on the CentreforNewsLiteracy interactive map of participating institutions that Queen's University was listed with you as a contact. Can you advise whether their course ever got off the ground ?
I'm looking for a way to contact students and lecturers of News Literacy in order to ask them to visit an online survey I am hosting to try to categorise the various web 2.0 technologies that can enable news consumers to educate themselves on various news issues.
Would you be able to participate in the survey and ask any of your students or colleagues that you think will be interested to contribute their opinions as well. It is located at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LKKDQBG.
Many thanks,
Jonathan

That isn't the only book where McLuhan is repetitive. Understanding Media is him explaining one theory and how it applies to various technologies. It's still interesting to read, but can become a little cumbersome.
Good luck with the read.

I just happened to pick up Gutenberg Glaxay at the local library book sale, and so I was reading it as this day passed... I didn't know it was his 100th b'day.

So thanks. I cannot comment intelligently on the book until I have finished it... I find it very repetitive, he makes the point over and over... whatever.

I am writing a thesis with the hope that it will be applied to better the world we live in. This thesis is on Public Trust in the Media, WikiLeaks, and the Government and need to know what your opinions are. The online survey is anonymous, multiple choice and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Please follow the link: http://www.kwiksurveys.com/?s=ILLLML_9669e09d. Would be great if you would encourage others to do the survey also.

You're very right that the story about the story is more interesting (right now) than the story itself. Once we know for certain what is happening here — whether the Thrashers are moving to Winnipeg — then the talk about the story will die, or maybe get worse if no deal materializes. But you're right. Very astute observation.
As for naming sources, don't know of anything off the top of my head, other than Sun Media boss Pierre Karl Peladeau naming a Conservative Party campaign staffer in a long editorial (which is a whole other kind of source outing that probably didn't need to happen that still makes for good discussion and debate). I don't think it happens too often, either, but I have little evidence to back up that assertion. From experience, I just stopped using the source — I no longer trusted them so they were off the Rolodex. I'll keep looking around for examples and post them if I stumble upon something good.
In the meantime, here's the New York Times policy on using anonymous sources: http://www.nytco.com/company/business_units/sources.html Definitely worth a read and worth using as a template for other news organizations.
